First Minister’s Briefing, 4th May

At her media briefing, the First Minister covered the following:

  • Daily figures: 12,226 people have tested positive for Covid-19 (+169), 1,720 are in hospital with a suspected/confirmed case (+54), with 99 in ICUs (no change). 2,780 people have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for the virus since 5 March. A further five people who tested positive have died, taking the total to 1,576.
  • With the upcoming review of the current lockdown measures, the First Minister said it was “very likely” lockdown will be extended beyond this week. The transmission rate, particularly in care homes, was still too high for any “meaningful change” in lockdown. Tomorrow, the Scottish Government will publish its assessment of the current rate of infection as well as other matters for consideration before lifting lockdown.
  • The FM outlined plans for a test, trace, isolate and support strategy for suppressing the coronavirus while seeking to ease the lockdown.
