Can I accept bookings during lock down?

Accommodation services (hotels, B&Bs, campsites and boarding houses for commercial use) were enfoced to close in line with the physical distancing regulations announced on 23 March. This includes self-catering properties (Exceptions can be found here.).

As per government guidelines to minimise the transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), providers can only accept bookings from essential workers. However, we have had confirmation from the Scottish Government that you may accommodate people, who are not necessarily key workers, if the reason for travel is ‘essential’.  Reasonable evidence of this must be provided upon arrival.

Essential travel isn’t exhaustively defined and if people are travelling because they need to (for example going home from abroad), it is for providers to make the ultimate call, but if you have ample reason to believe they fit within the exception criteria then they may accept bookings.

The guidance on travel and accommodation may be found here.

Accommodation providers should follow the advice set out by the UK Government on best practice and safety.

If you would like to put forward your business for support please contact covid19response@gov.scot. The Scottish Government may share this information with local health boards.
