As the trade body representing the sector in Scotland, the ASSC believes the industry should play its part in fighting the pandemic and in doing so supports the difficult conclusion that normal business should be suspended.
Following much consideration, the ASSC Board agrees that temporary closure is the only way that the association can live up to its principals of quality, integrity, cleanliness, comfort, courtesy and efficiency at this unprecedented time.
The ASSC is calling on the Scottish Government to come to the aid of small businesses, the self-employed, sole traders, partnerships and property managers, and those impacted by business interruption at this trying time.
The organisation has also urged everyone to follow official advice to stay at home, show consideration to others, and work together in these challenging circumstances.
ASSC Chief Executive, Fiona Campbell, said:
“The decision to support the temporary closure of our members properties is one that the ASSC has reached with a heavy heart, but we find ourselves in agreement with the Scottish Government that it is the correct one in order to protect, owners, guests and communities across Scotland.
“At this difficult time, our members will look to us, our partners in industry and to the government for guidance and reassurance; we cannot afford to let them down.
“We encourage our members, and everyone in Scotland, to listen and heed the official advice so that we get through this together and can resume business as soon as is possible.”
