Alistair Handyside, Chair of the Professional Association of Self-Caterers (PASC) and representing the ASSC, met with the Treasury Minister, Nigel Huddlestone MP, this afternoon. He was joined with an FHL Tax Expert from Francis Clark to address any complex tax issues.
The aim was to make clear the impact and damage that this policy will have, evidenced with data garnered from the surveys recently shared by PASC and the ASSC.
Our request is for a full Consultation on the abolition of the Furnished Holiday Let (FHL) tax regime. What is proposed is considerably more complex than the headline ambition to ‘abolish the FHL allowances’ might suggest and it requires further scrutiny and deliberation.
We have a good numbers of supportive MPs now, approaching 50 and this, like the iParl petition, is enough to set alarm bells ringing. Once again, these meetings simply would not have happened if they had not received as many petition letters from you, so our thanks to everyone that has joined forces to lobby on this.
Peter Aldous MP, Waveney has secured a Debate in the House of Commons on 1st May at 4pm. This will be on UK Parliament TV. PASC has provided supportive MPs with a briefing to support the debate.
We have secured over 15,000 signatures to the petition. It is not too late to add your name here.
The Owner Survey has secured over 7,000 responses, representing nearly 11,000 properties. This is the largest owner survey ever in our sector, thank you all. Please if you have not, take part in this survey.

As a joint endeavour between PASC and ASSC, we have commissioned the tax advice and support necessary for our members from FHL Experts Francis Clark. We anticipate launching this next week and will then be publishing a series of papers and webinars to help you navigate through any potential changes.
