Founded in 1978, the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers is the leading source of knowledge and advocacy in Scottish self-catering. We aim to empower our diverse and professional membership to enable them to give guests unforgettable experiences. With more than 1,700 members, we support the operation of tens of thousands of self-catering properties across Scotland.
The ASSC is a not-for-profit organisation run by and for owners and operators. As a member of the Scottish Tourism Alliance Council and the European Holiday Homes Association, we work closely with local authorities and the Scottish Government to ensure that our sector is recognised as pivotal to the future of Scotland’s Tourism Economy.
Self-catering is sustainable, flexible, independent, and affordable, offering inclusivity for all. For this reason, we commit our members to maintain high-quality principles and provide support packages to aid exemplary self-catering management. The ASSC does not run a booking agency but helps to market members’ properties via our visitor-facing commission-free platform, EmbraceScotland. Here, guests deal directly with your business and benefit from your personal touch and direct booking discounts.
Representation
The ASSC carries out Lobbying, Advocacy and Representation on behalf of its members. In an ever-changing regulatory landscape the ASSC finds itself increasingly politically engaged on a national and European level.
Short Term let Regulations
The ASSC is the leading source of knowledge when it comes to Short-Term Let Licensing and Planning Control Areas. We have developed comprehensive guidance for all small accommodation providers. In addition we have developed extensive Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and additional guidance which is available to members.
Committed to Quality
The ASSC Committed to Quality (CTQ) scheme is a commitment from all members to maintain the principles of “quality, integrity, cleanliness, comfort, courtesy and efficiency” to ensure visitors to Scotland consistently receive high standards within their self-catering properties.
ASSC’s Strategic Plan 2022-2026
Our vision is for the ASSC to take the leading role in supporting and promoting a vibrant and prosperous self-catering sector, that is recognised as pivotal to the future of Scotland’s Tourism Economy.
Code of Conduct
The ASSC launched a Code of Conduct in 2018, aimed at improving standards in the industry and encouraging best practice. The Code was developed alongside a Scottish Government study and comes with a Policy Recommendation Paper, which sets out how the vital self-catering sector in Scotland can be improved for customers, hosts, and all others involved.
The ASSC board
Our Board of Directors give their time to support the development of the sector. Each and every board member is an owner and operators of a self-catering business in Scotland.
