ASSC in Action: Fiona Campbell Advocates for Scotland’s Self-Catering Sector in Edinburgh

The ASSC’s CEO, Fiona Campbell, spent a dynamic and productive day in Edinburgh last week (17th January 2025), engaging with key policymakers to address pressing challenges faced by Scotland’s self-catering industry.

In a series of impactful meetings, Fiona held discussions with:

  • Kirsty McNeil MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland
  • Willie Rennie MSP, focusing on potential Planning Control Areas in Fife
  • Rachael Hamilton MSP, exploring insights from the BiGGAR Report
  • Ben McPherson MSP, addressing issues impacting Edinburgh

These meetings centered on the cumulative effect of regulations impacting the self-catering sector, including:

  • The abolition of the Furnished Holiday Let (FHL) tax regime
  • The introduction of the Visitor Levy
  • Challenges surrounding Short-Term Let Licensing
  • The potential imposition of Planning Control Areas

The cross-party discussions marked a significant step in ensuring that the voice of ASSC members and the broader self-catering community is heard. By fostering collaboration with policymakers, the ASSC continues to advocate for fair and proportionate solutions to support Scotland’s vital self-catering sector.

Stay tuned for updates as the ASSC works to champion the interests of our members and Scotland’s tourism industry.
