18 Leading tourism organisations, including the ASSC, have written to HM Treasury regarding the abolition of the Furnished Holiday Lettings (FHL) tax regime.
The letter requests confirmation from HM Treasury that an economic impact assessment has been conducted regarding the abolition. The signatories, representing a significant portion of the UK’s tourism sector, express concern over the decision, highlighting the potential negative effects on tourism, particularly in rural and coastal communities. It emphasises the sector’s contributions, supporting £9.4 billion in economic activity and 230,000 jobs. The letter warns that abolishing the FHL tax regime could lead to fewer jobs and reduced tourism spending, hindering the Government’s broader national renewal goals.
