“The measures imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic caused significant and lasting financial challenges for businesses, with the initial response from the insurance market to decline cover.
While the judgement handed down by the Supreme Court in the FCA test case has changed the landscape, these issues remain unresolved for many businesses who are unaware of opportunities to recuperate losses or what action to take next.
The Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) is partnering with SPS Advisory, an expert team of seasoned insurance lawyers and industry specialists, to deliver a free online webinar on navigating COVID-19 business interruption claims for the UK’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Relevant for independent businesses in the UK’s tourism and hospitality industry, this webinar will give an overview of the current landscape, highlight the opportunities, and offer accessible and actionable advice related to insurance and business interruption claims.
As well as hearing how businesses have successfully unlocked these hidden opportunities via SPS Advisory, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, both anonymously ahead of the event and during the session.

Marc Crothall MBE, CEO of the Scottish Tourism Alliance (Host)
In May 2012 Marc was appointed as the first CEO of The Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA), which is acknowledged as the overarching trade body for the tourism and hospitality sector. During the Covid pandemic Marc was the lead industry representative on the Scottish Tourism Emergency Response Group (STERG) and Scotland’s Tourism Task Force and now represents the sector on the Scottish Governments New Deal For Business Group. In November 2022 he was appointed to co-chair the reformed Tourism and Hospitality Industry Leadership Group, which acts as the strategic guardian of Scotland Outlook 2030. He continues to co-chair alongside Scotland’s Minister for Small Business Innovation Tourism and Trade, Richard Lochhead MSP. He is a very well-respected influencer, spending much of his time engaging directly with senior ministers in both Scottish & UK governments making representation on behalf of the industry.
Roger Franklin, SPS Advisory
Roger is the head of Edwin Coe’s insurance team, one of UK’s leading insurance practices. He is recommended in Chambers UK, Chambers Global and The Legal 500 UK directories for Insurance Litigation and Professional Negligence. Recently he has been at the forefront of advancing policyholder claims for business interruption losses suffered as a result of Covid- 19 and is currently instructed in claims of that nature for sums in excess of £130m. Notable successes in this area include Corbin & King Ltd v AXA (the leading test case on non-damage denial of access clauses) and multiple disputes on similar issues.
