The West of Scotland’s vibrant tourism sector was in the spotlight as the 2025 Thistle Awards celebrated the region’s outstanding businesses and individuals. From innovative self-catering escapes to inspiring leadership, the evening showcased the very best of what Scottish tourism has to offer.
Among the many deserving winners, two stood out for their remarkable achievements and contributions to the industry.
The Bonnie Barns were honoured with the Best Self-Catering or Unique Stay award, recognising their unique offering, impeccable standards, and dedication to creating memorable guest experiences.
Judges praised the business for its strong vision, attention to detail, and warm hospitality, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Loch Lomond.
Owner Linda said:
“A huge thank you to my husband Dougie who hand built our Barns, thanks to our families who have helped us on this journey and to our hard-working team. Most of all we must thank Sarah our manager, who looks after the place as if it was her own.”
This recognition highlights not only their own success but also the continued strength of Scotland’s self-catering sector.
The evening also celebrated the incredible contribution of Sheila Gilmore, Chief Executive of VisitArran, who received the Tourism Individual of the Year award.
Sheila’s leadership, passion, and dedication have long made her a respected figure in the Scottish tourism community. Her award reflects years of tireless work supporting Arran and its tourism businesses, while championing the sector on a national stage.
Sheila said:
“I am overwhelmed to be nominated, let alone win. It is such an honour to be considered alongside such respected professionals. To win the Tourism Individual of the Year is not just for me, but for all my Arran colleagues too – I am absolutely over the moon!”
The ASSC congratulates all winners and finalists on their success and looks forward to seeing the sector continue to flourish in the years ahead.
