ASSC is calling on self-catering businesses to urgently write to their MSPs about the current non-domestic rates revaluation, which is fundamentally flawed and putting viable tourism and rural businesses at risk.
The Scottish Government has both the legal powers and clear precedent to pause the revaluation and commit to a full review of the valuation methodology before the next cycle in 2029. This has been done before and can be done again.
We are asking businesses to write to their constituency MSPs and regional MSPs simultaneously and call for:
An immediate pause to the current revaluation for self-catering, and
A formal review of the valuation methodology.

This is a critical moment. MSPs need to hear directly from businesses in their constituencies – now.
Dear [MSP’s Name],
I am writing as a constituent and as a member of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers.
The current non-domestic rates revaluation for self-catering is fundamentally flawed and is already placing viable rural and tourism businesses at serious risk. The Scottish Government has both the legal authority and clear precedent to pause this process and commit to a full methodology review before the next cycle in 2029.
I am asking you to actively support an immediate pause and a formal review. Failure to do so will have serious political and economic consequences across communities that depend on tourism, enterprise, and local employment.
This issue is being watched closely by business owners and families in your constituency. Continued inaction will further undermine confidence in the fairness and competence of the current system.
I expect your support on this matter and a clear statement of your position.
Yours sincerely,
