Councillors have backed a call for tougher rules around short-term lets (STLs) in South Ayrshire – taking the first steps to address issues raised by local residents and campaigners.
The motion, brought by councillor Bob Shields and seconded by Cllr George Weir, will see officers draft new planning and licensing guidance for councillors to consider, with the aim of establishing local restrictions similar to those introduced in Glasgow.
The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers has responded to the call for tougher rules around short term lets (STLs) in South Ayrshire
Fiona Campbell, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said:
“Professional short-term let owners operate responsibly within local communities and instances of anti-social behaviour from STLs remain minimal, especially when compared to other types of housing tenure. Nevertheless, the ASSC would be happy to engage with South Ayrshire Council on any perceived issues arising. It is also important to note that the STL sector is already subject to comprehensive licensing regulations and planning controls. Rather than introducing further measures, we believe the priority should be consistent enforcement of existing rules.”
