The ASSC is inviting all short‑term let operators across Scotland to take a few minutes to share their experience of licence renewals by completing our latest survey.
As licence renewals begin to roll out, we are becoming increasingly aware of significant inconsistencies in how local authorities are interpreting and implementing the renewal process. Requirements appear to vary widely between councils, and in some cases operators are facing additional conditions, increased costs, or even licence refusals, despite having previously been granted approval through the initial licensing process.
This survey seeks to establish how short‑term let licence renewals are being handled across Scotland, with particular focus on consistency, proportionality, cost and any divergence from initial licensing requirements. Understanding these differences is essential in building a clear national picture of what is happening on the ground.
The evidence gathered will directly support ASSC’s ongoing work to represent and protect Scotland’s self‑catering sector, helping us challenge unfair practices and push for a renewal system that is fair, proportionate and reflective of the realities operators face.
