Following six months of sustained lobbying by the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC), the Scottish Government has today announced the launch of a new grant funding scheme to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers at self-catering and small accommodation providers.
The scheme was unveiled by Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop MSP, and will provide a significant boost to rural and island businesses, strengthen Scotland’s appeal to eco-conscious travellers, and accelerate the nation’s progress towards its ambitious net zero targets.
The ASSC has been at the forefront of campaigning for this targeted investment, working in partnership with the Scottish Rural & Islands Transport Community (SRITC), Transport Scotland, and ASSC partner Voltshare.
Fiona Campbell MBE, Chief Executive of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said:
“Following six months of sustained lobbying, we are delighted to confirm that the Scottish Government has announced that grant funding will be available for EV chargers for self-catering and small accommodation providers.
This is a landmark success for the sector, directly reflecting our advocacy on behalf of our members and our collaborative work with SRITC, Transport Scotland and our partner Voltshare.
By supporting small businesses to invest in EV charging infrastructure, the Scottish Government is levelling the playing field, strengthening rural and island economies, and helping future-proof Scottish tourism.
This scheme will attract eco-conscious visitors, enhance the visitor experience, and accelerate Scotland’s progress towards net zero. It also demonstrates the tangible impact of our collective influence in shaping policy that delivers meaningful, long-term benefits for Scotland’s tourism sector. We are proud to have played a pivotal role in making this happen on behalf of our members.”
