The ASSC responds to the survey on a potential visitor levy for Fife with some key recommendations. You can see the full response here.
Fiona Campbell MBE, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said:
“With Fife Council’s survey on a local visitor levy closing this week, we urge all those with an interest to take the time to respond before the deadline.
The ASSC has been clear that Fife Council should pause its current work. Significant change is coming at a national level through the upcoming amending Bill from the Scottish Government, which will give local authorities greater flexibility – including the option to introduce a simpler, fixed-fee visitor levy – rather than the existing percentage model.
With these new powers on the horizon, it makes sense for Fife to take stock and wait to see exactly what tools will be at its disposal. Pressing on regardless risks locking in an approach that may soon be unnecessarily complicated and pose difficulties for local small businesses down the line.
We urge all stakeholders to make their views known and for Fife Council to reflect carefully on the changing national picture before proceeding further.”
