Fiona Campbell, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said:
“The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers welcomes the fact that a tourist tax won’t be taken forward in Dumfries and Galloway. Given the existing regulatory burden, we are pleased that common sense has prevailed as a new tax would have been the last thing hard pressed businesses needed at the present time. As this council has bucked the trend, we have to remember that this tax is discretionary and not compulsory. Other councils now need to reflect on whether it is worth the risk of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.”
