The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill has taken an important step forward, after being backed at Stage 1 by the Scottish Parliament Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee.
The Committee has now published its Stage 1 report, setting out a series of recommendations to strengthen and clarify the legislation.
You can view the recommendations here.
This marks a key milestone in the Bill’s progress through the Scottish Parliament.
The Bill now moves to a plenary vote, where all Members of the Scottish Parliament will decide whether to agree its general principles.
If MSPs approve the Bill at this stage, it will return to the Committee for Stage 2, where detailed scrutiny begins and amendments can be proposed.
We will continue to keep members updated as the legislation progresses, particularly as discussions move into the detail of how any future visitor levy could operate in practice and what it may mean for destinations and businesses across Scotland.
