The legislation enabling a Visitor Levy in Scotland continues to move through the parliamentary process. Below is the latest update on the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill, including the outcome of Stage Two proceedings and what happens next as the Bill progresses to its final stage in the Scottish Parliament.
- The Scottish Government’s Visitor Levy (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill has now passed committee consideration at Stage Two in the legislative process. Recorded coverage of the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee proceedings from 4th March is available to view here.
- The ASSC welcomed the Scottish Government’s amendments at Stage Two and thank them for listening to the concerns of industry. In terms of the opposition amendments, the Scottish Conservatives can be commended for listening to their constituents on a range of issues, however we agree that they did not merit inclusion in the Bill.
- The Bill, as amended, now enters Stage Three proceedings which is the final legislative hurdle. MSPs can propose further amendments to the Bill which will be debated, and then voted upon, in plenary amongst all MSPs. The ASSC will continue to engage with the Scottish Government, MSPs and industry partners, and will keep members updated as to the Bill’s progress through parliament.
