The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) has published the results of its first Climate Action Survey, revealing strong commitment across the self-catering sector to embrace sustainability – alongside clear calls for more tailored, practical support.
With 193 responses, mostly from micro-businesses, the survey highlights that:
While the willingness to act is clear, operators face barriers including cost, time, and lack of knowledge. Guest behaviour and gaps in local infrastructure also remain challenges.
The survey confirms that the sector is motivated and ready – but needs realistic, sector-specific support. Through its Climate Action Plan and the SAM principles of Sustainable, Achievable, Meaningful action, the ASSC will continue to lead and inspire progress.
